Contact Lens Exam

Contact Lens Prescriptions: Where Science Meets Comfort

Contact lens prescriptions are both an art and a science. While precise measurements provide the foundation, finding the right contact lens also requires professional expertise and careful evaluation of your individual needs.

During your contact lens exam and fitting, your optometrist will take detailed measurements of your eyes, assess the health of your corneas, and evaluate your vision requirements. Using this information, they will select a lens designed to provide the best possible combination of clear vision, comfort, and eye health.

Because every eye is unique, contact lens fitting often involves fine-tuning lens type, material, and design to achieve optimal results. Our goal is to ensure your lenses fit comfortably, perform well throughout the day, and support your long-term eye health.

Why a Contact Lens Prescription Is Different

A contact lens prescription is not the same as a glasses prescription. It includes additional measurements and fitting considerations to ensure lenses sit properly on the eye, provide clear vision, and maintain comfort and safety.

Types of Contact Lenses

Daily Contact Lenses
A fresh pair every day. Simple, clean, convenient vision.

Daily contact lenses are designed to be worn during the day and then discarded after each use. There’s no need for cleaning, disinfecting, or storing lenses overnight, simply start each day with a fresh pair.

Daily lenses are a great option for patients who wear contacts on an as needed basis, such as sports or an evening out as well as daily wear for those prone to dryness or lens discomfort. Patients who value convenience, comfort, easy lens care, and wearing a fresh new lens every day are a great fit for Dailies.

Monthly Contact Lenses
One pair. One month. Simple, convenient vision.

Monthly contact lenses are designed to be worn during the day and removed, cleaned, and properly stored each night. The same pair of lenses is then reused throughout the month and replaced with a fresh pair at the end of the monthly wearing period.

They’re a convenient option for patients who wear contacts every day and prefer reusable contacts with a simple predictable replacement schedule.

Rigid gas-permeable (RGP)
We also offer RGP’s, this kind of contact lenses are firm, custom-fitted corrective lenses made of oxygen-permeable plastics that let air pass directly to the cornea.

Now it’s your turn to test it out.

After your contact lens evaluation and fitting you will be given trial lenses. Your doctor will usually have you wear the trial lenses for one week. After that, you’ll have a short follow-up exam to confirm that the lenses are working well for you, and you can then order a supply of contact lenses. If this is your first contact lens exam, don’t worry at Eyecare Specialties you are in good hands and we’ll answer all your questions as you go. Just be sure to let us know you’re interested in contact lenses so that we know to allow for extra time in your appointment for the consultation and any specialized measurements.
