Optometrists

Dr. Susan Semmler and Dr. Mike Semmler are the husband-and-wife owners of EyeCare Specialties and have proudly served the vision care needs of the Hot Springs Village community since opening their practice in 1996. Both earned their Doctor of Optometry degrees from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 1994. 

Dr. Susan received her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University, while Dr. Mike earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Nebraska. Together, they built EyeCare Specialties on a foundation of compassionate, patient-centered care and a commitment to providing the highest quality eye care to their community. They have also developed strong professional relationships with many ophthalmic subspecialists in the area, ensuring that when patients require tertiary or surgical eye care, they receive seamless referrals to trusted experts while remaining connected to their primary eye care team. 

Over the years, the practice has continued to grow alongside the Village it serves. Their office has expanded several times, with the most recent renovation at their current location adding two additional examination rooms to welcome another optometrist to the practice and better meet the growing needs of their patients. 

Beyond the office, Drs. Susan and Mike have truly enjoyed being part of the Hot Springs Village community and raising their two sons here. When they're not caring for patients, they enjoy spending time boating on nearby lakes, camping, biking, traveling, and making memories with family and friends. 

Patients also know that a visit to EyeCare Specialties often includes a friendly greeting from Sully and Ruby, the practice's beloved office dogs. Affectionately known as the "PR Department," these four-legged ambassadors are always happy to welcome visitors and bring a smile to everyone's day.
